Moonlight breaking through clouds over a dark sea

Modern Cypriot taverna · Limassol seafront

Where the waves set the table.

Charcoal, salt and citrus a few steps from the water. Fish from the morning boats, wine from the mountains, candles against the dark.

A long candlelit table on a terrace beside the sea at dusk

The table

Dinner arrives with the tide.

Our terrace sits a few steps from the water on Akti Olympion. You hear the sea before you see the menu, and the candles are lit before the first plate lands.

The fire

Recipes with sixty years of smoke on them.

Afelia the way it is made in the hill villages, sheftalia rolled by hand every afternoon, bread from our own oven. The grill has been in the family longer than the building has.

Moonlight reflected in a path across a calm dark sea

The sea

We close when the moon says so.

Kymata means waves. The last table of the night keeps its own time here, and nobody is handed a bill while the moon is still on the water.
